  • Position: Sales Representative – Fair Trade Focus

  • Location: Victoria, BC (Also open to the possibility of a remote position in the GTA)

  • Hours: Based on 37.5 hours per week (Days and hours TBD)

  • Position Type: Full-time, permanent

  • Compensation: Salary + Commission (See appendix A for benefits)

  • Effective: To start in June 2019

  • Paid Time Off: 13 PTO days + 1 day/year longevity (pro-rated)

 

COMPANY BACKGROUND

Level Ground Trading is a Direct Fair Trade company located in Victoria, BC Canada. Our mission is to trade fairly and directly with small-scale farmers in an effort to alleviate poverty through direct fair trade. We promote sustainability and well-being through long-term trade relationships where fair prices are paid and premiums are invested in producer communities for capacity building. We import coffee, tea, dried fruit, cane sugar, vanilla, heirloom rice and spices.

At home in Victoria, we send nothing to landfill, pay staff to bike, bus or carpool to work and reclaim empty packaging. Together, we’re building a food system focused on sustainability and well-being.

SALES TEAM OVERVIEW

Level Ground’s Sales Team is a co-operative, communicative, forward-thinking positive environment where hard work and innovation are valued. Supporting one another through each challenge and success is a necessity to succeeding in this role. The goal of the sales team is for each one of us to be using our talents to the best of our ability to experience personal, team, and organizational success.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position will take over management of several account types with the initial goal of building relationships with existing customers and then developing account specific growth strategies. This position will include:

  • Collaborating with Team lead category advisor to set objectives and targets

  • Building relationships with existing customers

  • Securing new accounts through lead generation and follow-through

  • Managing orders and specific account needs

  • Managing account sales promotions and rebates

  • Providing input and participating in bi-weekly sales team meetings

  • Visiting accounts as needed

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Business related post-secondary education preferred with a focus on sales and marketing

  • Recommended minimum 2 years relevant work experience in a sales position

  • Experience with strategic planning and executing a sales strategy

 

General Skills/Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Capacity to adapt quickly to a fast paced, dynamic work environment

  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines

  • Proven participatory work style; ability to work independently and with a team

  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, and Web-based applications

  • Minimum 50 wpm typing speed. (We operate in a Mac based environment)

  • Success in this position depends on your ability to understand others, predict their needs, and offer solutions in a friendly manner. Professional appearance and communication, as well as the ability to build strong relationships will be important.

  • Strong interpersonal skills to gauge the needs of customers, and to communicate actions required to both the customers and supporting staff at Level Ground.

  • Confidence to ask timely questions, offer information and initiate methods for increasing exposure of the products.

  • Flexibility and wisdom to put the time in where it makes the biggest impact.

  • Sensitivity to the needs/opinions of co-workers, ability to put yourself in their shoes to figure out a solution that works for everyone.

  • Ability to analyze efforts and put the most amount of time into efforts that provide the biggest impact long term.

 

Desired Assets

  • Awareness of Fair Trade and environmental sustainability

  • Familiarity with Fair Trade principles
